SoMa Crime: Serial Burglar Arrested, Pipe Assault, Stevenson St. Stabbing, More

Here is another edition of your local crime blotter, recapping some of the criminal activity that has occurred over the past two weeks in SoMa (since our last recap). Unless otherwise noted, information is taken from SFPD reports.

Two people assaulted with pipe on Natoma

Yesterday at 7:40am, a 22-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were assaulted on the 400 block of Natoma Street (between 5th and Mary streets).

The victims were reportedly sleeping in an alleyway off of Natoma when a male suspect aged 30-40 approached the first victim. The suspect struck and injured the male victim with a pipe.The suspect then struck the second victim after she approached the suspect. Heading northbound on 6th Street, the suspect fled Natoma Street. Both victims were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. No arrest was made.

Woman injured during purse snatching on Natoma

On April 1st, a robbery took place at 10th and Natoma streets at 6:45pm. The suspect, a man in his early 40s, was involved in a verbal altercation with the 63-year-old female victim.

The suspect grabbed the victim's purse. After resisting, she was injured. The suspect then fled southbound on 10th Street. The victim refused medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. No arrest was made.

Man pepper-sprayed and robbed on Mission Street

At 11:50am on March 29th, a 35-year-old man was injured in a robbery on the 1400 block of Mission Street (between Market and Mission streets).

The victim initially walked out of a store with a case. He was confronted by the two male suspects (of an unknown age), who pepper-sprayed the victim, took the case, and fled in an unknown vehicle. The victim was reported to be in stable condition from his injuries; no arrests have been made.

Man arrested in apartment fire 

A 41-year-old male suspect started a fire inside his apartment building on the 1500 block of Langton Street at 12:26am on the 25th of March. When police responded to the fire, the suspect said that he had started the fire while working with flammable material in his apartment.

The suspect's apartment sustained damage. The suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening burns and later arrested. 

Assault injures man on 11th and Harrison 

At 3:20am on March 25th, a 23-year-old male was injured in an assault that took place between 11th and Harrison streets.

The suspect, a 20-year-old man, and the victim engaged in a verbal altercation on the street. The suspect then punched the victim and fled on foot. No arrests were made; the victim was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Man locked and beaten in SoMa

On March 24th at approximately 11:00pm, a 64-year-old male suspect was assaulted at an undisclosed location in SoMa.

The victim first met with the suspect, a 30-year-old male; both men then took Muni to an unknown location in SoMa. The suspect apparently locked and assaulted the victim in a gated area. The victim fled.

Later, at the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, he reported the assault to police. No arrests have been made.

Stabbing on Stevenson and Duboce

A 33-year-old male victim was stabbed on the corner of Stevenson and Duboce streets at 9:55am on March 21st. The suspect, a man aged 35-40, approached the victim and used an unknown metal object to stab him.

The suspect then fled the scene. The victim claims that the suspect was known to him. The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

Arrest made in string of burglaries 

On March 18th at 5:41pm, a suspect was arrested in connection to 17 burglaries that have taken place in SoMa and the Financial District over the last five months.

The alleged suspect is 44-year-old Herman Canada, who was spotted on the 2000 block of Mission Street. After police officers recognized the suspect from a crime alert bulletin, he was arrested.
