Here's a recap of the latest in crime and safety news from the SFPD's Tenderloin Station. All reports come directly from SFPD, unless otherwise noted. 

Man left bleeding after attack from behind

On April 18th, a 34-year-old man was found bleeding from his head near the intersection of Turk and Leavenworth streets around 9:20pm. The victim told police he was hit from behind with a stick by a male suspect, who then fled the area.

70-year-old robbed by five teens

At 7:38pm on April 18th, a 70-year-old man walking along the 1100 block of Market Street (near Jones) was attacked by one teenage male who attempted to take the older man’s property. Four other teens, ranging from 12 to 18 years old, joined the first suspect in stealing the victim’s bag—containing his sweater, glasses and cigarettes—before fleeting the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Carjacking at knifepoint at Ellis and Larkin 

Around 3:30am on April 16th, a 20-year-old man was driving near the 700 block of Ellis Street (near Larkin) when he got into an argument with a 32-year-old man. The older man pulled a knife and stole the victim’s car, but later returned to the scene, where he was arrested after the victim identified him.

Suspect stabs victim after random argument

On April 15th, a 25-year-old man approached a 27-year-old man on the 300 block of Larkin Street (near McAllister) around 2:37am and began an argument for no apparent reason, according to the victim. The younger man stabbed the victim and attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested. The victim was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Drive-by robbery of skateboarder on Market

Around 7pm on April 14th, a 31-year-old man was riding his skateboard along the 1200 block of Market Street (near Hyde) when three men, said to be between 25 and 35 years old, approached him in a vehicle. One of the suspects grabbed the man’s backpack from his hands, knocking him from his skateboard; the trio then drove off, heading west on Market. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

Punching victim loses consciousness, shoes and backpack

Around 4pm on April 7th, a 36-year-old man was approached by two men on the 300 block of Hyde Street (near Eddy). The two suspects punched the victim, causing him to pass out, then stole his shoes and backpack. The suspects have not been identified. 

Car keys stolen after altercation

Two men, 39 and 60-65, got into an argument near the intersection of Leavenworth and Eddy streets around 10:40am on April 11th. The fight escalated, and the younger man struck the older man with a tool, dropping his car keys in the process. The older man took the keys and drove away in his own vehicle, and has not been detained. 

Two victims injured in knife attack

Around 7:11am on April 11th, a 36-year-old man got into an argument with a 63 year old man on the 600 block of Eddy Street (near Larkin). The younger man pulled a knife on the older man, who hit the suspect on the arm in self-defense. A 32-year-old man came to the victim’s aid, and the suspect retreated to his apartment.

The two victims called the police, but the suspect re-emerged and pursued them with a knife again before the police arrived and took the suspect into custody.

Cyclist pepper-sprayed and robbed by group of teens

A 44-year-old man was unlocking his bike near 5th and Market streets around 9:50pm on April 10th when a group of seven to ten 15-year-old males surrounded him. One suspect sprayed the victim with pepper spray, while the others stole the victim’s bike and cellphone. The suspects all fled the scene and no arrests were made, but the bicycle was later recovered. 

Motorcycle rider shot in passing

Two men, aged 19 and 23, were arguing near the intersection of Taylor and Turk streets around 8:40pm on April 10th when the younger man fired a handgun and shot a 33-year-old man who was passing by on his motorcycle. The motorcyclist was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the two suspects were later identified and arrested, based on witness accounts. 

Arrests made in three-on-one attack

Three men, aged 17, 31 and 24, picked a verbal fight with a 48-year-old man on the 1000 block of Market Street (near 6th) around 10:05pm on April 9th. The older man tried to walk away, but the suspects punched and kicked him. The victim then pulled a knife on his attackers to defend himself, causing them to flee the scene on foot. They were later identified and arrested.
