AMC Metreon Surrenders Liquor License, But New Food & Drink Plans Are 'In The Works'Photos: Shane Downing/Hoodline

If you're wondering what's going on with the construction at the AMC Metreon 16 in SoMa, you're not alone.

"[The construction] seems substantial," wrote in tipster Niraj S. "They were rumored to be getting alcohol nearly two years ago, are they finally adding a bar?"

The short answer is "yes," but it's not clear when. 

Plans to add new food and drink options are "in the works," said an AMC manager who declined to divulge additional information.

Although the theater has the requisite approval from the Planning Department, its liquor license is listed as "surrendered" on the state's ABC License Query System and is set to expire in September. Currently, Japantown's AMC Sundance Kabuki (1881 Post St.) serves alcohol, although its liquor license is set to expire in November of this year.
