Just a few blocks from Ocean Beach, Streamline Coffee & Kitchen has now opened for business at 3560 Taraval Street (and 46th Avenue) at the former Beach n' Boba location.

After delays spent navigating San Francisco's permitting system, the new café is serving up coffee and espresso drinks with beans from Oakland-based Nomadic Coffee. For those who need something stronger, draft beer and wine are also available.

They also offer breakfast and simple fare like tartines, frittatas, salads, bagels, and house-made granola.

According to owner Dion Garcia, the menu will continue to evolve as Streamline experiments with new offerings.

"The menu is still not where we want it to be," he said. "That’s taking time, so every week, we’ll be introducing new stuff."

As part of their goals, the three owners behind Streamline—Garcia, David Quinby (who is also behind the Riptide), and Brent Willson converted an adjoining space next door to the café, which previously housed an insurance office.

The trio, who all have arts and music backgrounds, hope to make the new space into a community center for art exhibitions and community events. They've already tested out the concept with exhibitions on the Dada movement.

"It's inspiring being able to create a space for artists at all levels to be seen, to create a consciousness for art," said Garcia, who also DJs at local radio station SomaFM, "especially at a time when art is more important for people than it has been for a long time."

Along with adding new sidewalk seating, the owners plan to extend operating hours as they take on more staff. Garcia said that the goal is to get to eventually get to 8am–8pm.

"We’ll creep the hours as much as we can as we build the business," he said.

The café is part of a revitalization of Taraval Street between 46th and 47th avenues, one that includes the recently re-opened Riptide and the new outpost of Andytown. A new cocktail bar will also eventually be added to the neighborhood, although a date has yet to be announced.

So far, the new café has been well-received by the community; Garcia said he's grateful for the support of his neighbors.

"As I reflect over the past month and a half," he told Hoodline, "it’s incredible the amount of support that we’ve had. We had a lot of neighbors stop by and talk to us. The community has brought life here."

Streamline Coffee & Kitchen is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 8am–3pm. To stay updated on events and hours, check out its Facebook page.
