While we don't report on every police report filed, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. 

Here's a recap of reported criminal activity in the South of Market area over the last three weeks since our last update. All information is taken from SFPD reports, unless otherwise indicated. 

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint

At 4:08pm on May 12, a male suspect in his late twenties robbed a 29-year-old female victim at gunpoint on Langton Street.

The victim was walking when the suspect approached, brandished a handgun, and demanded her property. The victim dropped her belongings (purse, wallet, laptop and headphones) and fled the scene. No arrests have been made, and the suspect was last seen entering an unknown Toyota. 

Man Fires Gun Into Vehicle At Pier 48, One Wounded

On May 7, a shooting took place at 11:05pm at Pier 48 after two 21-year-old male victims saw a 30-year-old male suspect approached the parked car in which they were sitting.

The suspect opened fire, striking one of the victims who got out of the car and ran. The second victim fled in his vehicle. The man who was shot was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was located and arrested.

Woman Starts Fire On 5th Street 

At 7:42am on May 7, a fire was called in at the 300 block of 5th Street. A 23-year-old female suspect apparently lit papers on fire inside her apartment. When SFFD responded, the suspect refused to leave; the suspect was detained for a medical evaluation. 

Man Arrested For Assault With Vehicle

A man in his twenties was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on May 6 at 10:30pm. The suspect drove onto the curb near Jesse and 6th Streets after being pulled over by police officers before backing into the parked police car and driving away.

The suspect was later pulled over and arrested. 

Elderly Clerk Assaulted On Mission And 10th 

At 4:44pm on May 1, an 86-year-old man was assaulted in a store on Mission and 10th Streets. The report states that a 29-year-old male suspect entered a store where the victim was working and told the victim he needed juice because he was diabetic.

The victim gave the suspect a sweet snack instead and the suspect then became angry and pushed the victim to the ground, causing injury. The victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and no arrest was made. 

Life-Threatening Shooting 

On May 1 at 2:52am on Brannan Street and 8th Street, a 35-year old man was shot, resulting in life-threatening injuries.  

When police responded to reports of gunshots, they discovered a wounded victim in the street. He was transported to the hospital, but his current condition hasn't been released. No description of the suspect has been released, and police have not made an arrest in the case.

Multiple Suspects Rob, Assault Man 

On April 30, three men and a woman got into a verbal altercation with a 30-year-old male victim, which led to an assault and robbery on the 1000 Block of Folsom Street at 12:30am.

The first suspect, a man in his twenties, grabbed the victim's phone from his hand before the other suspects beat him until he lost consciousness. When he woke, his money had also been taken. No arrest has been made and the victim was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries. 

Suspect Arrested in Burglary 

On April 29, a burglary was interrupted at 1:30pm on the 100 block of Otis Street. A 58-year-old male suspect broke into a 52-year-old man's apartment and punched the victim.

The suspect —who was an acquaintance before the incident— accused the victim of stealing his property, but was arrested when police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Tent Fire, Assault On Berry Street 

At 8:30am on April 29, an unknown subject started a fire near 6th Street and Berry Streets, which lead to the injury of a female victim.

The report states that the first victim (male) woke to a loud noise and found his tarp had been set on fire. One unknown suspect attacked him while another suspect attacked the other victim, injuring her. No arrests were made in the incident, and the injured woman was treated at the hospital with minor injuries.

SFPD's Southern Station community meeting is being held at The Arc at 1500 Howard Street in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 24. The meeting will run from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
