Spotted: Pigeon With Possible Blow Gun Dart Embedded In Its Head At 18th & Sanchez [Updated]Photo: lalaleonilla/Twitter

Earlier today, a pigeon was spotted in the Mission with what appears to be a syringe blow gun dart embedded through its head.

Ariel Dovas posted the picture on Twitter, and added: "My friend just found this lil thing on the Streets of San Francisco."

When Hoodline reached out to Dovas, he said that his friend took the picture on 18th and Sanchez streets.

Animal Care and Control's Officer Edith also responded to his tweets.

"We've been out a bunch but he just flies away. Poor sweet babe," she wrote. She said that despite the injury, the pigeon appears to still be fully mobile.

"They look so terrible, but appear to just carry on as normal," she wrote. "I wish they knew we would help if they stayed put."

In 2008, pigeons with similar injuries were reported in Seattle. At the time, animal experts said that the end result for the birds could be "a very, very painful death" if their injuries were left untreated.

Update, May 8th, 9:44am: A tipster let us know that the bird was sighted again on May 7th and has still not been treated

If you see the pigeon on the street, contact Animal Care & Control's emergency dispatch line at (415) 554-9400.
