Today at 12:36pm, SFPD's Twitter feed announced that the department has issued a shelter in place order near the intersection of Eddy and Jones Streets in the Tenderloin.

KRON4 is reporting that the incident began at 12:15, when an unidentified man entered the station with "a possible explosive device." A bomb-disposal team is on its way to the scene.

A tweet by the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management indicates that the order extends to the intersection of Eddy and Leavenworth.

[Update: 1:08pm] According to Bay City News, the incident began "when a resident attempted to turn in some possible explosive devices to the Tenderloin police station." It's unclear at this time where these devices were discovered.

BCN reports that some people have been evacuated and residents in the surrounding area are being asked to stay indoors until further notice. Drivers should expect delays in the area; Muni officials said service on its 31 Balboa line will be delayed.

[Update: 1:45pm] SFPD reports that the shelter in place order was lifted, but residual traffic delays are expected.
