Koret Playground Fire Fundraiser In Full Swing

Days after a midnight fire demolished the playground at historic Koret Children's Quarter in Golden Gate Park, efforts are underway to fund its reconstruction.

The Chronicle reported yesterday that the bill for the fire, under investigation as an arson, could be as high as $1 million.

To meet that demand, the San Francisco Parks Alliance has already initiated a fundraiser, and some neighbors—like, the Chronicle reported, Stepping Stones Preschool in the Inner Sunset—are doing what they can to pitch in.

The playground and carousel at Koret Children's Quarter dates back to 1887, making it one of the nation's oldest public playgrounds. In 2007, it reopened after an extensive $3.8 million renovation, with the Koret Foundation donating $1.8 million, and the remainder coming from state grants.

To contribute, donate directly through the Parks Alliance online, or by writing a check to San Francisco Parks Alliance, 1663 Mission Street, Suite 320, San Francisco CA, 94103, Attn. Koret Playground Repair.
