The 47th Annual Pride Parade struck a defiant note of protest and resistance yesterday amidst the rainbows, bubbles and colorful costumes.
Even as many at the parade honored the progress that LGBT communities had made, others were concerned about long-simmering issues, including police brutality, trans rights, and immigration.
Groups and organizations involved in the parade discussed whether or not to have the entire parade be a protest against President Donald Trump, reported the Examiner. At a Friday press event, Pride organizers announced that groups of protesters would start the parade.
“It was both fun and political at the same time,” said paradegoer Peter Chorba, who said it was his first Pride after moving to the city with his husband.
