Mission Bay has a brand-new Mediterranean spot, thanks to the family behind Hayes Valley's former Hayes & Kebab. Called SF Kebab, the new eatery is located at at 550 16th St (at 3rd St.), adjacent to UCSF's Mission Hall.

Open since May 30th, SF Kebab offers a broad selection of dishes featuring "authentic flavors from the Mediterranean Coast to the Middle East." Look for a variety of pita wraps filled with grilled meat or vegetarian options, plus starters and dips, salads, and an array of meat or falafel platters served with rice pilaf or bulgur with salad and home-made bread.

OpenĀ 8am-10pm Monday-Saturday, and 11am-9pm Sunday, SF Kebab offers a unique breakfast menu as well as serving up lunch and dinner options. In the morning hours, expect items like the "mellemen" (slow cooked eggs with onion, bell pepper, fresh tomato), "Wan Style Plate" (boiled egg with feta cheese, herb goat cheese, pastrami, honey, fresh sliced tomato, cucumber, Kalamata olives), and breakfast wrap (scrambled eggs, lamb/beef or chicken gyro, fresh tomato and feta cheese wrapped in pita bread). See the full menu here.

(Update, 6/3: They're not open for breakfast just yet, so call ahead if you're planning on swinging by on the early side.)

The new spot had been eagerly awaited by some in the area who, despite the recent opening of nearby Poke Life, still yearn for convenient options in the neighborhood.

Robert M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 30th, said: "Brand new on the block here in Mission Bay. Working through logistics on the first day of service, serving up some great food and wonderful service."

Yelper Mike H. added: I've been waiting for 2-1/2 years for this place to open. It's great to have what looks like a pretty healthy menu given the very limited options we have around here that are within a reasonable walking distance for a 1/2-hr lunch break."

And Brandon S. said: "The long anticipated SF Kebab is now open and it was well worth the wait!"

SF Kebab is now open daily at 550 16th St, so head on over to check it out ... and, as the owners advise, "Leave some room for baklava."
