Want to do a little light reading on a pleasant, sunny day? Then Jane Warner Plaza's new Little Free Library, which opens tomorrow, might be the place for you.

Part of a growing phenomenon, "take a book, return a book" is the Little Free Library's motto. According to a press release issued by Andrea Aiello, executive director of the Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District, which is bringing the library to the area, there are now 36,000 such exchanges in 70 countries.

The idea is to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.

However, in San Francisco, the Little Free Libraries have had a mixed record. In 2016, the Duboce Triangle Little Free Library called it quits after it was stolen and in a separate incident, set on fire

The Little Free Library has launched with books written and donated by members of the Castro Writer's Cooperative, a shared co-working space for writers of all stripes located nearby at 549A Castro St.

So if you're in the mood to sit out in the sun, enjoy a cup of java and read a good book, then head over to Jane Warner Plaza and see what offerings await you tomorrow. This being the Castro, there will no doubt be many fine works of LGBT literature to tickle a reader's fancy.

To donate books, email Andrea Aiello of the Castro/Upper Market CBD at [email protected].
