Time for another look at crime in SFPD's Central District, which includes Chinatown, Financial District, Embarcadero, Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills, North Beach, and Union Square.

Here are some of the incidents that have taken place since our last report. Unless otherwise noted, all reports are based on information from SFPD.

Man Attacks Couple With Pipe Near Embarcadero

On July 13th at 8:42am at the corner of Bay and Kearny Streets, a 39-year-old man came up to a 45-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, and began hitting them with a pipe without provocation, injuring them both.

Police apprehended the suspect and the victims were taken to a hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries. 

Woman Allegedly Steals Wallet, Punches Man Near Union Square

A robbery occurred on the 500 block of Geary near Union Square at 4am on July 13th after a 40-year-old man met up with a woman, 30, and brought her to his room. The woman then left and the victim noticed that his bag was open and his wallet was gone.

He went downstairs, found the suspect and confronted her about his missing billfold. She responded by punching him and fleeing the scene in an unknown vehicle. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no arrest was made. 

Suspects Rob Man In North Beach At Gunpoint

Near the corner of Montgomery and Broadway Streets at 2:30am on July 13th, a 36-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint by two unknown suspects. The two assailants approached the victim from behind, then one of them pointed a gun and ordered him to hand over his belongings.

The other suspect rummaged through his pockets and snatched his camera, wallet, cash, and cell phone. The two suspects then absconded with the loot in an unknown car and fled southbound on Montgomery Street. 

Russian Hill Hot Prowler Steals Laptop, Wallet

On July 9th at 5pm on the 1000 block of Green Street in Russian Hill, a hot prowl burglary occurred. One of the victims, a 57-year-old man, awoke when he heard a noise outside his bedroom and thought it was his wife who wasn't home at the time.

He then noticed that a laptop and wallet were missing from the house. His wife, 48, was heading home and saw a man in his late 30s whom she thought might be the suspect. 

Suspicious Early-morning Embarcadero Fire 

Police responded to a report of a fire on the 100 block of Union Street near the Embarcadero on July 9th at 3:25am. When they arrived, SFFD was already on the scene and had extinguished a fire that started in a 71-year-old victim's building.

Witnesses told police that they saw an unknown suspect in the area during the time of the fire, but no one was identified and no arrests were made. 

Man Robbed Outside FiDi Convenience Store

On July 9th at 1:30am on the 100 block of Drumm Street, a 29-year-old man was robbed while sitting on the sidewalk in front of a convenience store.

A suspect in his 50s reportedly approached the victim and began to assault him. During the attack, the victim's cash and sunglasses fell to the ground, which the suspect stole before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. 

Man Targeted In Early-morning Chinatown Armed Robbery

A 30-year-old man was walking southbound on Stockton near Sacramento Street on July 8th at 4:25am, when a suspect in his 20s pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet.

The victim complied, but then was pushed by the suspect, who then fled northbound on Stockton. 

Nob Hill Hot Prowler Steals Laptops, Credit Cards

Another hot prowl burglary occurred, this time in Nob Hill on the 100 block of Pleasant Street on July 4th between the hours of 5–7pm. A 28-year-old woman was in her room when she heard noise and some footsteps outside and assumed it was one of her roommates.

When she checked to see who it was, she noticed that someone had entered the home through a window and had taken two laptops and four credit cards. The suspect then allegedly left through the front door. 

Good Samaritan Robbed After Offering Cash

A 31-year-old man approached another man, 76, and asked him for money near the corner of Pine and Mason Streets in Nob Hill just after 1pm on July 2nd.

When the victim pulled some cash from his pocket to give it to him, the suspect snatched all of it and fled the scene. The victim's son was able to locate and identity the suspect and police took him into custody.
