'Outer Orbit' Pinball Salon & Eatery To Take Over Bel GastropubImage: Google Maps

A new pinball arcade and restaurant is heading to 3215 Mission St. (between Valencia St. and Fair Ave.), currently the site of Belgian gastropub Bel. Called Outer Orbit, the new spot is hoping to open in spring 2018.

In addition to pinball, Outer Orbit will offer Hawaiian-inspired dishes and a curated list of beer and wine.

Outer Orbit comes courtesy of two Bernal residents and self-declared "pinheads," Christian Gainsley and Elisabeth Kohnke, who operate as Skillshot Pinball.

According to Bernalwood, the pair had previously hoped to open at 1000 Cortland Ave. However, the space they were looking at—previously the Cutting Edge hair salon—required a change of use authorization.

Some neighbors objected to the pinball establishment moving in, citing concerns over "noise and the effect on the neighborhood."

Then, according to Mission Local, Gainsley and Kohnke offered to buy the Bel space after owner Richard Rosen was injured in a motorcycle accident, forcing the Belgian restaurant to run with a "skeleton staff."

Rosen and his co-owner (and partner), Jennifer Garris, both residents of the area, accepted the offer and decided to close Bel after the accident.

On Monday, the pair posted a notice on their window, saying that "it [was] with considerable remorse that we must close the doors at Bel and move on."

We've reached out to Gainsley and Kohnke for more details on Outer Orbit, and will update this article if they respond.
