Police have blocked off 16th Street between Harrison and Folsom Streets in the Mission after responding to a bloody assault on the sidewalk outside J. Georgie's Donuts & Chinese Food.

According to an officer on the scene, a male victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries around 6:15pm. Police would not say if a suspect was in custody.

Police conferred on the sidewalk near the scene of the assault.

Responding officers put up crime scene tape to preserve evidence and restrict access to the scene as soon as they arrived. A fire truck and ambulance arrived shortly thereafter, but soon departed.

According to Muni, the 22 and 33 bus lines are being rerouted via 17th St. between South Van Ness and Bryant Streets until police have cleared the scene.

16th Street was closed between Harrison and Folsom.
