SFPD has issued a shelter in place order for residents and merchants within a block of the intersection of Pierce and Page Streets due to a ruptured gas line.
According to the department's Twitter account, units are on the scene. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

People who live or work in the affected area are encouraged to take shelter in an interior room with no or few windows. We'll update this story as more information is available.
[Update: 12:33pm] According to tipline user Jay S., a construction crew struck a gas line sometime before noon and gas "has been spewing violently for at least 30 minutes."
[Update: 1:23pm] As of 1:15pm, the shelter place order was lifted. A repair crew from PG&E arrived on the scene to help repair the damage; no injuries were reported.
