Before everyone starts staring at the sky on Monday, here are a few ideas to help plan an epic weekend leading up to the big celestial event.
Kick off with a feline extravaganza at the Academy of Sciences' Nightlife, then check out drag queen bingo at the El Toro Night Club in Portola or the first night of the New Filipino Cinema festival at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
On Friday, channel your inner daredevil with the City Skyline Challenge, which allows you to rappel down the Hilton San Francisco Union Square like Spiderman—all in the name of charity.
Saturday brings a bevy of festivals to choose from: North Beach hosts the city's biggest Italian festival, the 5th annual 20th Street Block Party returns to the Mission, and Fat Tire Beer sponsors a mix of musicians, circus performers and vaudeville acts at Fort Mason.
Lastly, there's a free movie in Dolores Park Saturday night, a table tennis tournament Sunday morning in Chinatown and Waterbar's annual Oysterfest Sunday afternoon along the Embarcadero.
And, of course, there's a partial solar eclipse on Monday morning. We won't have the best view, and Karl the Fog may be in the way, but why let that stop a good party?
