Here’s a look at recently reported crimes in the Bayview Police District, which includes Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, Bayview and Hunters Point.

Man Killed In Late-night Shooting

On August 15th, at 2:15am, a 48-year-old man was shot on the 2500 block of Jennings St. The man was taken to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. For more information, here's our story

Home Invaders Tie Up Resident, Ransack Home

On August 9th, at 1:14am, three men entered the home of a 60-year-old man on the 500 block of Hamilton St.

The suspects tied up the victim and ransacked his house for jewelry, money and other items before fleeing. The victim was able to break free and called the police.

Man Threatens To Bomb Building, Sets Himself On Fire

On August 6th at 9:40pm, SFPD arrested a 30-year-old man on the corner of Wallace Ave. and Jennings St., reported the Chronicle. The suspect was armed with a molotov cocktail, and threatened to set it ablaze and throw it at a building.

Prior to the confrontation with SFPD, the suspect chased a female victim into a building located on the 2100 block of Jennings St. and threatened to set her on fire.

After officers confronted the suspect, he said that officers should “not turn their backs on him,” and also referenced police shootings. He then reached into his back pocket and pulled out a smaller bottle of gasoline. He doused his upper body with the gasoline and set himself on fire, and then charged towards officers as he removed his clothes.

The suspect was transferred to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Upon his release, he will be arrested for aggravated assault and possession of an incendiary device.

Driver Arrested After Fatal Collision With Jogger

On August 3rd, SFPD arrested 21-year-old Devon Radel, a San Bruno resident charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter and gross negligence and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving. He allegedly collided with 37-year-old Xiuwei Liu, who was jogging on the sidewalk on Harney Way and Executive Park Blvd.

Teen Charged With Murder, Attempted Murder

On July 18th, at 2:37pm, the SFPD gang task force arrested a 17-year-old male on the 1500 block of Geneva Ave. The juvenile allegedly shot and murdered 18-year-old Marshawn Byrd on the 1400 block of Palou Ave. on July 15th. The suspect was also connected to the shooting of a 32-year-old man on the 1400 block of Innes Ave. on July 10th.

Robbery With Mallet And Knife

On July 16th, at 6:37pm, two male suspects in their early twenties robbed a 37-year-old man walking near the intersection of 22nd and Missouri streets in Dogpatch.

One suspect threatened the victim with a black mallet with a wooden handle, while the other brandished a three-inch knife with a wooden handle. The suspects fled southbound on Missouri St. with the victim’s wallet.

Attempted Hot Prowl

On July 14th, at 12:05am, on the 1100 block of Oakdale Ave., a 63-year-old man was sleeping when he woke up to a man attempting to rip off the screen of his bedroom window. The suspect demanded that he open the door. The victim yelled at him, causing the suspect to flee in an unknown direction. 

The Bayview Police Station holds a community meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at 201 Williams Ave. The next meeting is September 5th.
