Roll Up Creamery & Café will host its grand opening on August 20th, but you can check out the Mission’s newest ice cream joint during its soft opening now.

The shop is serving up rolled ice cream and soft serve inside V16 Sushi Lounge at the corner of 16th and Valencia streets.

Roll Up joins the ranks of other stores offering rolled ice cream, which is fast-frozen in cold metal pans, then scraped into rolls using a metal spatula.

Ice cream is big this year: the Inner Sunset's Let's Roll and SoMa’s Steep Creamery both opened this spring, and according to Mission Local, there are now 11 independent ice creameries in the Mission alone.

According to  its Facebook page, Roll Up offers specialty flavors such as uji matcha, purple yam, and flor di latte, described as a “creamy milk flavor.”

It also offers its ice cream rolls in colorful taco shells.

Roll Up’s hours are Sunday through Thursday from 1pm to 10pm.
