'Top Round Roast Beef' Brings Retro Eats To The MissionThe new sandwich spot opens its doors on Saturday. | Photos via Top Round

Best known for roast beef sandwiches that evoke a "bygone era," Los Angeles-based chain Top Round Roast Beef makes its San Francisco debut at 2962 24th St. (between Alabama and Harrison streets) this Saturday, August 26th.

The new eatery will occupy the space that previously housed the Mission’s Discolandia Records—which closed in 2011 after 40 years—and was most recently home to Pig & Pie. It will be Top Round's third outpost; other locations include a branch in Kentucky and a fourth restaurant opening soon in Texas.

Top Round serves slow-roasted roast beef sandwiches on butter-toasted buns.

Variations on the original—which includes spiced seasoning and au jus—include the "horse and hole" (Provel cheese, horseradish cream, and mushrooms served on a sesame bun) and the beef and cheese (homemade cheese “wizz” and beef on an onion roll).

Blueberry pie custard.

Other popular items include fried chicken sandwiches, fries with gravy or cheese "wizz," and frozen custard creations like the Elvis (served with bananas, peanuts and hot fudge).

While Top Round's renovations to the space were underway, locals raised concerns over the preservation of the orange-and-black Discolandia sign, reported Mission Local. Although workers initially painted over the sign in white, they later restored it to its original colors.

Top Round's hours will be 8am to 9pm daily.
