Castro Crime: Argument Turns Into Hit-And-Run, Fruit Robbers Arrested, More

Here's an overview of notable incidents reported around the Castro since our last crime roundup.

All reports come from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Fruit & Notebook Robbery Ends With Arrests

A 66-year-old man was walking near Sanchez and 16th on September 13th at 9:30pm when he was approached from behind by three young men, all 18-20.

The younger men grabbed the victim's bag and knocked him to the ground before fleeing with his items, including a notebook and fruit.

A witness to the incident contacted Hoodline to share his account:

I witnessed a mugging at 9:30pm last night on Sanchez St between 16th St and 17th St (in front of Sanchez Elementary). A group of 3-4 males attacked a man and then fled on foot towards Dolores Park.

I called 911 and provided a description of two of the individuals, and then I followed them (in my car) as they made their way to Dolores Park. Two of them were eventually apprehended by the police near Dolores and 21st St and I helped ID them. I don't think the victim was seriously injured.

Two of the suspects were later arrested and the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

19th Street Hot Prowl

On September 11th, a 45-year-old man heard someone leave his house near 19th and Noe between 2-5am. The homeowner discovered that an unknown suspect had stolen a laptop and tablet. No arrest was made.

Hancock Hot Prowler Steals Bike

Early at 2am on September 9th, a 22-year-old woman awoke to hearing voices in her garage near Hancock and Sanchez. When she asked who was there, she heard footsteps, and then found that her bicycle was missing. No suspect was identified and no arrest was made.

Robbery With Knife

Later on the 9th, a woman, 22, was walking down the street at 10:30pm near 18th and Church when a man of unknown age approached her, demanding her property.

The suspect then yanked a necklace from her neck and drew a knife. The victim handed over her phone, purse, watch, and car keys before the suspect fled on 18th. No arrest was made and the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Argument Leads To Hit-And-Run

On August 31st at 2:55pm, a 45-year-old man was working outside of his truck near 18th and Castro when another man, 72, approached in a vehicle.

After a verbal confrontation ensued, the older man accelerated his vehicle into the younger man and fled the scene.

The suspect was later arrested; the victim complained of pain, but refused medical assistance.
