This week's event round-up is sponsored by the San Francisco Symphony.

The SFS launches its 2017-2018 season today with a season-long celebration of the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, the US-born composer, conductor and pianist widely regarded as one of the 20th century's greatest composers—and a longtime friend of Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas.

From September 22nd to 24th, the SFS will perform highlights from four works showcasing Bernstein’s creative range, which included ballet, opera, musical theater, film scores and orchestral works.

Tickets are available now at sfsymphony.org

Despite the week's heavy rains and lightning shows, there's no need to hunker down indoors this weekend.

Mostly sunny skies are on the horizon as well as plenty of immersive stage performances—from Yo-Yo Ma at Davies Symphony Hall, chamber music in the Presidio to the African-American Shakespeare Company's rendition of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Taube Atrium Theater.
