A new bakery with French pastries and more has made its debut in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to SoMa, called Les Gourmands Bakery, is located at 5th and Folsom inside the Mosso apartment complex.
As we reported back in April, the new spot comes from 5th-generation baker Sylvain Chaillout and his parents Catherine and Serge, who'll be turning out freshly baked viennoiseries continuously throughout the day. Expect croissants, brioches, chaussons aux pommes (apple turnovers), chouquettes (pastry puffs) and other baked goods made from longstanding family recipes.
Les Gourmands Bakery has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.
Suzanne C., among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on September 27th, said: "Words are genuinely failing me at this moment, while licking the flaky bits left over from my pain chocolat from my fingertips."
Yelper Elena K. added: “Their pastries are the real French deal. This time I got the chocolate brioche and but I've got my eyes set on the almond croissant next time.”
Head on over to check it out: Les Gourmands Bakery is open weekdays from 7am–7pm, and Saturday from 8am–7pm. (It's closed on Sunday.)
