A new miniature indoor golf course is coming to Ghirardelli Square this spring.

Popular Alameda put-put spot Subpar is expanding and adding a San Francisco-themed, 18-hole course at the former chocolate factory.

The course will depict various city landmarks at each hole, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Ferry Building, and Ghirardelli Square.

“After operating in Alameda for five years and developing a loyal fan base of all ages, we are thrilled to expand our unique miniature golf course to San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square,” Michael Taft, founder and owner of Subpar, said in a statement.

“With a brand new course specifically designed to showcase beloved San Francisco landmarks, we couldn’t be more excited to open Subpar in one of the city’s most iconic locations," he said.

The site of the new mini golf course boasts 6,000 square feet of play space, with an additional 1,000 square feet outside for seating and a bocce ball court.

Subpar is also planning to offer an array of California wines and craft beers.

During the past few years, Ghirardelli Square has evolved. While some businesses have come and gone—such as the recent departure of Waxman's restaurant and its pop-up chicken joint, JBird—others are thriving.

After a pop-up summer beer garden proved successful, the San Francisco Brewing Company announced that it will have a permanent location in the square as well. It will be the brewery's first brick-and-mortar taproom and restaurant, set to begin construction in a few weeks time.

While Subpar plans on opening some time this spring, an official opening date has not yet been determined.
