[Update: 3:50pm] SFPD spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca told Hoodline via email that officers called the department’s Tactical Team to the scene last night after making contact with the subject and determining that he was “in crisis.”

A team of negotiators “made verbal contact with the subject and tried throughout the night and early morning hours” to convince him to exit the residence.

It's not clear who requested the well-being check, but "police had information that the subject may be armed with a firearm and may be a danger to himself," said Rueca.

After several hours passed and negotiators were unable to communicate with him, they entered the home “to locate the subject and any other occupants.”

Once inside, police discovered that the subject was deceased due to "a self-inflicted gunshot wound," with a gun nearby. No one else was at home, but a dog that was inside the residence is now in a neighbor’s care.

[Update: 1:53pm] According to Park Station Captain John S. Sanford, Jr., the barricaded suspect took his own life. We'll update this story with additional information after we receive more information from SFPD.

A standoff between a barricaded suspect and police officers that began last night continues this morning in the Inner Sunset, SFPD reports.

Last night, officers from Park Station responded to a residence on the 400 block of Hugo Street near Sixth Avenue to perform a well-being check on a 26-year-old man.

Police have created a perimeter around the block where the incident is unfolding.

It’s unknown who asked police to stop by, but after officers made contact with the subject, he refused to leave the residence and would not respond to questions asking whether he is armed.

According to a statement from the department, it’s unclear if other people are inside the residence. Multiple neighbors who contacted Hoodline confirmed that police continue to restrict access to the area and have not reached out to residents to share information.

“I just saw the police tape off Hugo between 4th-6th Ave, 6th from Irving to Lincoln is closed,” said a resident who asked to remain anonymous.

“There must be 10 police cars around here. I did hear a loud bang at 9:30 last night, but I thought it was more storm-related,” she said.
