If you thought you smelled smoke this afternoon, it wasn’t your imagination—just before noon, members of the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a report of a small grass fire at McLaren Park in the Excelsior district.

Smoke from the blaze was visible from several neighborhoods; the scent of scorched vegetation wafted north to the Mission and hung in the air for much of the unseasonably warm afternoon.

After firefighters arrived, they determined that four separate brush fires were active near several homes across three acres, reported Bay City News. By 12:35pm, SFFD spokesperson Jonathan Baxter tweeted that the fires were 90 percent contained, and that there were no injuries or warnings issued.

As of this afternoon, investigators had not identified the cause of the fires. Firefighters “will remain on scene to make sure to flare ups don’t occur,” said Baxter in a subsequent update an hour later.
