New Art Gallery/Gift Shop 'Bay-Made' Debuts In LakeshorePhoto: Bay-Made/Yelp

A new art gallery and gift shop, offering art supplies and more, has opened up shop in Oakland. Located at 3295 Lakeshore Ave. (between Lake Park Ave. & Trestle Glen Rd.) in Lakeshore, the new arrival is called Bay-Made.

Founded by two Lake Merritt residents—Sarahjane Bernhisel, an illustrator, and Schuyler McAlister, a fabricator and engineer—the new shop offers locally made artwork, crafts, and gifts. Shoppers will find goods such as calendars, pottery, cards, art supplies, skincare, bags and more, all of them made or designed by Bay Area artists.

The walls will feature work from a rotating cast of local artists. The shop's initial show, which launched for last week's First Friday, featured Brandon Smith, Germaine De Luca, Simon Lutrin, and Bernhisel herself, all of whom live within a mile of Lake Merritt.

The shop will also offer classes and workshops for locals, in disciplines ranging from wood-block printing to watercolors.

With just one review on Yelp thus far, Bay-Made currently has a five-star rating.

Mb M., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on October 8th, said: "Great art gallery with art classes, such as watercolor, drawing, wood block, jewelry making. The art is really nice, especially the oil paintings. There is a section for gifts, which is nice."

Intrigued? Stop in to see it for yourself. Bay-Made is open Tuesday–Sunday from 10:30am–6:30pm. (It's closed on Monday.)
