New Butcher/Charcuterie Spot 'The Fifth Quarter' Now Open In MontclairPhoto: Sooparfli F./Yelp

A new butcher has debuted in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Montclair, called The Fifth Quarter Charcuterie, is located at 6464 Moraga Ave. (between La Salle Ave. & Medau Pl.)

The Fifth Quarter is owned by Scott Brennan, a Culinary Institute of America graduate who developed his charcuterie skills at Berkeley's now-shuttered Cafe Rouge.

All of the shop's products, from charcuterie like paté and bacon to prepared foods like meatballs, are pasture-raised and hormone- and antibiotic-free. The shop also offers a few lunch items, like sandwiches and chili.

Brennan's homemade hot dogs earned him a cult following at East Bay farmers markets, and according to the Mercury News, the new location will eventually feature hot dogs, corn dogs, outdoor seating, a beer and wine bar and butchery classes for the public.

With a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the new butcher has already made a good impression.

Jeff D., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 20th, said: "I am so glad that Scott has opened his butcher shop and charcuterie in my neighborhood. He's super friendly, and sure knows his way around a pig! His charcuterie is excellent, and the sandwiches are great."

Yelper Sooparfli F. added: “Came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and got all three of their sandwiches. The meatball sandwich had three generously sized meatballs that were tender and juicy and nestled in a soft and delicious roll.”

And Linh T. said: "Everything here is absolute quality! I've followed Scott, the owner, for 10(?) +years, and and his standard and taste has always remained steadfast. Definitely try his sandwiches."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: The Fifth Quarter Charcuterie is open Tuesday–Saturday from 11am–6pm, and Sunday from 10am–4pm. (It's closed on Monday.)
