Here's a recap of recent criminal activity in the South of Market area in the five weeks since our last summary. Unless otherwise noted, all incidents were reported in the police department's daily blotter.

Man robbed at gunpoint

A 22-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint at Beale and Mission streets on October 11th at 10:33pm.

A male suspect, around 20 to 25, walked past the suspect and asked to borrow his phone. The victim handed over his device when the suspect produced a gun and told the victim “not to follow him.” No arrest has been made in the case.  

Argument precedes assault

On October 9th at 9:00pm, a 40-year-old man was walking home when a 31-year-old male suspect struck him with a pipe or stick. Police report that the victim had argued  with the suspect prior to the assault.

No arrest was made and the victim was transported to the hospital.

Fight escalates to chase, pipe injury

At 12:45am on October 6th, a 54-year-old man was injured in an aggravated assault at 8th and Harrison streets.

The victim was engaged in a physical altercation with the suspect, a 23-year-old male, when his assailant grabbed a metal pipe and chased him.

When the suspect caught up with the victim, he struck him with the pipe, causing non-life threatening injuries which required hospitalization. The suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.

Woman strikes man with hammer

A 45-year-old man was injured in an assault on Mission and South Van Ness streets on October 1st.

The victim was approached by a female suspect of an unknown age at 3:40am who then struck him in the head with a hammer before fleeing southbound on Mission Street. No arrest was made, and the suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Woman stabbed while sleeping

At 1:36am on September 30th, a 44-year-old male suspect was arrested in a stabbing on the 600 Block of Minna Street. 

The victim, a 49-year-old-woman, reported waking up with the suspect standing over her; he then began to stab her as she was kicking and screaming.

The suspect then struck the victim, after which police arrived and took him into custody; she was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds. The incident took place at 1:36am. 

Man struck with pipe, robbed

At 4:20pm on September 18th, an unknown suspect hit a 51-year-old male victim with a pipe while he lay sleeping.

The suspect stole the man's cell phone and backpack before fleeing in an unknown direction. The victim received non-life threatening injuries and received medical treatment at a hospital. No arrest has been made. 

Multiple suspects in knife robbery 

On September 15th near Mason and Market streets, three men of unknown age robbed a 24-year-old man by knifepoint at 2:50am.

According to police, two suspects grabbed the victim as he was walking, while the third suspect brandished a knife and demanded his property. The victim handed over his wallet, and the suspects fled in an unknown direction. No arrest was made.

Pedestrian killed in collision

A female pedestrian in her forties was killed in a traffic collision at Dore and Brannan streets on September 15th.

The police were alerted at 8:15am about an accident involving a pedestrian, but the individual was unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene. For more information, here is our story. 

Arrest made in stabbing

A man was stabbed near 7th and Folsom streets on September 8th at 12:53 am. According to the report, two men, one 40 and the other 30, got into a fight with the 37-year-old male victim on the street.

During the argument, the victim was stabbed with a sharp object by one of the suspects, who were both taken into custody. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Man injured in armed robbery

On September 7th at 11:21pm on Townsend Street at the Embarcadero, a 29-year-old man was injured in an armed robbery.

A male suspect of an unknown age approached the victim and brandished a gun. It's unclear what happened next, but the victim "ended up on the ground" when the suspect assaulted and injured him, taking his wallet.

The suspect fled on an unknown direction, and the victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. No arrest has been made.

Stabbing at 8th & Mission 

A 39-year-old man was stabbed at 8th and Mission streets at 11:55pm on September 7th and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, a 30-year-old male, approached the victim and accused him of owing a personal debt. The suspect then stabbed the victim in his left arm and fled on foot. No arrest was reported to have been made.

Pepper Spray Robbery Ends in Arrest 

A robbery involving assault with pepper spray took place at 5:05pm on September 7th. Two juvenile suspects (a 15-year-old female and a 16-year-old female) grabbed a 30-year-old female victim’s phone as she was crossing the street at 4th and Folsom Streets.

The victim chased the suspects who then pepper-sprayed the victim and punched her. The suspects fled to the Transbay Terminal where plainclothes police found arrested them.
