West Adams Gets A New Vegan Cafe: 'Jackfruit Cafe'Photo: Jackfruit Cafe/Yelp

A new cafe and vegan spot has opened for business in the neighborhood. The new arrival to West Adams, called Jackfruit Cafe, is located at 2959 Crenshaw Blvd.

The new cafe—located inside King's Donuts—specializes in vegan fare made with jackfruit, a starchy, unripe fruit native to southeast Asia. Considered a good source of protein, iron, potassium, and calcium, jackfruit has become popular with vegetarians and vegans as a meat substitute that can be enjoyed in a variety of preparations. Jackfruit Cafe offers it in BBQ, curry, jerk, or vindaloo sauces.

On the menu, expect to see items like a jackfruit soul platter with a choice of jackfruit, rice, cabbage, beans and pasta; wraps with jackfruit pulled pork, slaw, and pinto beans; jackfruit flautas with sweet potato and avocado; and more. There are also a few dishes with fried cauliflower "chicken" in orange, buffalo, or jerk sauces.

A variety of vegan sides round out the menu, including black eyed peas, collard greens, and plantains. (You can check out the full menu here.)

The new cafe is earning raves on Yelp, where it holds 4.5 stars with six reviews.

Destiny W., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on October 15th, said: "I was passing through the LA area in search of something opposite of food. I stumbled upon this gem! I ordered these two items out of excitement! Most vegan places are Americanized!"

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Jackfruit Cafe is open daily from 11am–7pm.
