Here’s a recap of recent criminal activity in the Ocean View, Merced Heights and Ingleside neighborhood, known collectively as the OMI. Unless otherwise noted, all incidents were reported in the police department’s daily blotter.

Man tries to steal skater’s camera

A man attempted to take a camera from a skateboarder who was filming friends doing tricks on Wednesday, November 15th at 4:14 pm, near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Howth Street.

Since the camera’s strap was wrapped around the victim’s wrist, the suspect was unable to steal it. The victim’s friends quickly approached the suspect, pushed him to the ground and punched him. The suspect then walked to a vehicle and drove away.

Drunken man arrested for resisting officers

On Sunday, November 12th, at 10:18pm, Taraval Station officers responded to a call about a drunken man at a restaurant near Ocean and Lee avenues.

The officers escorted the suspect out of the restaurant, but the suspect refused to sit down and attempted to walk away.

The officers handcuffed the suspect and began to drive to the station for a four-hour detoxification period.

In the car, the suspect threatened to kill the officers several times and was arrested for resisting arrest.

Paramedic tracks down patient turned thief

A San Francisco Fire Department paramedic flagged down a police car to report a theft near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Junipero Serra Boulevard on Saturday, November 11th at 10:19 a.m.

After refusing care, a patient being taken to the hospital left the ambulance.

When the medic noticed her phone was gone, she followed and confronted the suspect, who was cited for possession of stolen property and theft.

Casual chat leads to warrant arrest

On Thursday, November 9th at 6:12pm, Taraval Station officers responded to a call from a woman who said her husband was sitting in a car with two strangers near the intersection of Harold and Bruce avenues.

After asking her husband what was happening in a text, he replied that he was being robbed. When officers arrived, the caller’s husband said that he was only talking with the other passengers, not being robbed.

Police arrested one of the car’s occupants after finding a warrant for their arrest.

Ocean Avenue security guard arrested

On Thursday, November 9th, at 4:00pm, Taraval Station officers responded to a report of an assault at a restaurant near 1600 Ocean Ave.

The victim said that the suspect, a local security guard, had “disrespected” him for being homeless and punched him. The security guard said he raised his hands to defend himself after the victim began yelling at him, but denied hitting the victim.

Police officers cited the guard, but after checking their database and realizing he had an active warrant in San Mateo County, he was arrested him at 4:49 p.m.

Man threatened after crash

On Friday, November 3rd, at 7:57pm., two suspects threatened a man after a car crash.

After two vehicles collided near 200 Granada Ave., the victim attempted to exchange insurance information with the suspect, the driver of the other car. The suspect attempted to leave the scene and, when the victim followed, the suspect drew a knife and threatened the victim.

A friend of the first suspect then approached the victim’s car, closed the car door suddenly and hit the victim on the head. When the victim drew a knife to defend himself, the second suspect broke the car’s window and both suspects fled.

Soccer players batter teammate

After a verbal conflict over a soccer game broke out, a man’s teammates punched and kicked him at 1:55pm. on Wednesday, November 1st at Minnie and Lovie Ward Recreation Center.

Other players broke up the conflict and the suspects left the field.
