A new cafe and breakfast and brunch spot, offering Vietnamese food and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Cafe Opla, the fresh arrival is located at 2200 Alaskan Way in Belltown.

Café Opla is a Vietnamese eatery that celebrates how French colonization influenced the country's cuisine, specifically via opla—the Vietnamese word for oeufs au plats, or breakfast egg dishes.

Since the café's owners grew up in the United States, dishes range from traditional Vietnamese oplas to varieties influenced by the American melting pot of cultures.

On the menu, expect to see items like "Opla Vietnam," with grilled pork, meatballs, and pickled veggies; "Opla Japan," with chicken katsu, tofu, cucumber sunomono, and furikake seasoning; and "Opla America," with pork sausage, candied bacon, and tomatoes.

There are traditional banh mi sandwiches on hand as well, with stuffings of pork, meatball, chicken, or lemongrass tofu topped with pickled carrots, daikon, jalapeños, and cilantro.

Rounding things out are an array of coffee drinks like mochas, lattes, and espresso, as well as Vietnamese iced coffee and Italian sodas. (You can check out the full menu here.)

The new cafe has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp.

Debbie P., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on November 27th, said: "So far, Cafe Opla has gotten 5-star reviews, and it's rightfully warranted!"

Yelper Joop V. added: “New little cafe that just opened up a few weeks ago. What I like is that they don't just offer coffee/tea, but also offer light breakfast/brunch/lunch meals like opla and banh mi."

And Cheryl L. said: "While strolling along the pier on our vacation, we stopped by Cafe Opla to grab a quick bite. I had the Opla Vietnam, and man was it tasty! Reminded me of the opla I had in Saigon."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Cafe Opla is open weekdays from 7am–4pm, and weekends from 8am–4pm.
