In a Facebook post, Sage Café on 340 Grove St. (at Gough) announced that its last day of service will be on December 29th.

In a goodbye message, owners Sidney and Mary Wong reflected on operating for ten years at this location and on their 38-year-long career in Hayes Valley restaurants.

"Sidney loves classical music and performing arts, so it has brought him great joy to meet and speak with the many musicians, dancers, performers, performing arts crew members as well as patrons that share similar passion," reads the letter.

The couple will now head into retirement, and their "first adventure will be a cruise through Asia."

Just a three-minute walk from The SFJAZZ Center and War Memorial Opera House, Sage Café's menu of breakfast, sandwiches and noodle dishes made it popular spot for pre-show dining.

"Ate light dinner before SF Symphony. This café was just outside the Grove Street garage," wrote Yelper Clifford W. "This place was exactly what we were looking for before going to a matinee at the Opera House," Cari T. added.

Four years ago, Jean-Luc Kayigire took over the Wong family's other restaurant, Blue Muse at 370 Grove St., reopening it as a bar, Muka.

As we reported, Sidney, who often ran more than one restaurant at the same time, decided to focus on Sage Café. "I'm going to make it easier on myself, because running two restaurants is too much," he told Hoodline in 2013.

The Sage Café is open on Monday from 8am to 7pm, Tuesday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, Saturday from 10am to 8pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
