Attention, shoppers: grocery store Lidl, known for its low prices, has arrived in Raleigh. 

Since June, the German grocery giant has embarked on an expansion that has seen it open 16 other locations in North Carolina. This is its first opening in Raleigh. Another store in Winston-Salem opened on the same day, November 16th. 

The opening joins other supermarket chains that have recently moved into the Triangle, including Publix, Sprouts, and Aldi, the News Observer noted. A Whole Foods also opened in Cary in November.

At the Raleigh store, shoppers can expect savings up to 50 percent less than other supermarkets, Lidl said in a statement. Like competing grocer Aldi, as much as 90 percent of its products are private label, allowing the company to set prices below those of brand name products.

“This ‘Lidl’ effect is great news, not just for Lidl customers but for everyone who shops in the areas surrounding our stores,” Lidl's U.S. spokesperson Will Harwood told the News Observer.
