A 56-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in SoMa yesterday afternoon when he was body-slammed to the sidewalk by another man.

The assault occurred at 1pm near 9th and Mission streets when a 40-year-old male suspect got into a physical altercation with the victim. After the fight escalated, the suspect struck the victim with his fists before picking him up and throwing him to the ground, police reported.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, and police took the suspect into custody.
