As 2018 begins, Urban Mercantile, the housewares shop that's operated for more than 14 years across from the Sunset Tunnel portal, is calling it quits.

Founded in 2001, the shop "will be shutting down its bricks and mortar operation," said owner Bradley Burch in a statement. "I sincerely thank my friends for unfailing support and all of the loyal fans, neighbors, and customers who have made my job so much fun!"

Burch said he plans to focus "on a new e-commerce concept, product development, maker consulting, and continuing with his interior design business."

The change comes as the shop's lease is up for renewal; Burch decided to let it expire rather than renew.

According to Urban Mercantile's Facebook page, the final wind-down sale commences when the store opens tomorrow. Prices will be marked down thirty percent storewide, with limited items discounted by fifty to seventy-five percent.

"I am deeply grateful for you diehard fans and neighbors," Burch wrote, "and for making all these years as a merchant a dream come true and a joy along the way."

Urban Mercantile is located at 85 Carl Street (near Cole) and is open from 11–6.
