A man suffered life-threatening injuries in Lower Nob Hill yesterday in an early-morning assault, police reported.

The incident occurred on the 800 block of Sutter Street between Jones and Leavenworth streets around 6am when a man walking to his apartment was attacked by three men who were not described.

The victim, 37, was transported to a hospital for treatment, and none of his assailants were apprehended. Police did not offer any motive for the attack, but based on initial reports, the victim was not robbed.
