Gunfire rang out in the Outer Mission early this morning as two suspects battered a man, police have reported.

At 2:01am near Mission and Rolph streets, a 47-year-old male was arguing with two men, one who was described as approximately 30 to 34 years old, and another believed to be 34.

As the first suspect punched the victim, his companion produced a handgun and "shot multiple times in an unknown direction," according to police.

The suspects, who were not arrested, then fled the scene on foot. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the assault, but was not wounded.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered spent shell casings, as well as a vehicle that had been damaged by gunfire.
