An East Bay man was arrested last week after law enforcement officers uncovered two pounds of cocaine, a loaded 9mm unregistered ghost gun, and evidence of drug sales during a traffic stop in Redwood City last week, according to CBS Bay Area.

The 36-year-old suspect, identified as Darren Hughes of Pinole, was arrested in the area of Whipple Avenue and Highway 101 by Redwood City Police, who were assisting the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) offices in Chicago and San Jose in a narcotics trafficking investigation. This collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies helped keep dangerous drugs and firearms off the streets, as reported by Mercury News.

Redwood City Police Department's Street Crime Suppression Team played a vital role in the arrest, along with support from federal authorities. Through this cooperative effort, they were able to stop Hughes and seize a cache of illegal items, further demonstrating the value of such multi-agency collaboration to tackle crime more effectively, as noted by Redwood City Pulse.

Hughes had been under investigation by the DEA's San Jose and Chicago offices, and it was their combined efforts that led to this significant bust. Following the arrest, Hughes was taken into federal custody by the authorities. His initial court appearance took place on June 29.
