Yesterday, an unexpected water leak occurred in the vicinity of Benicia Middle School, demanding the immediate attention of the Public Works Department according to the City of Benecia. The landscape irrigation system at the school was temporarily decommissioned while surrounding residences didn't experience any interruption in their water supply. A Facebook post by the city noted that the source of the leak was a 4-inch service line and was repaired in about three to four hours.
As a result of the incident, eastbound traffic to quickly divert on Southampton Road through a nearby parking lot. The Benicia Police Department, in cooperation with Public Works crews, oversaw traffic management to minimize congestion.
Tangible improvements like pipeline upgrades, or introducing flood protection measures are important, but so too is the development of a culture that proactively addresses these issues.
