Ex-CEO of Alameda's All Hands on Deck Convicted with 44 Felonies in $34M COVID-19 Relief ScamSource: United States of America vs. Attila Colar (Case: CR 20-91311 SK)

Attila Colar, former CEO of All Hands on Deck, was convicted of 44 felonies including bank fraud and witness tampering, potentially facing a 17-year prison sentence. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of California, Colar's company claimed to provide residential reentry homes for probationers, parolees, and those with mental health complexities, yet he manipulated the system.

Colar successfully deceived organizations that trusted his service, including GEO Reentry, through fabricated documents and reports. His objective was to exploit resources offered by the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a scheme built to insulate individuals from economic difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the PPP sought to provide economic relief to many suffering from the pandemic, Colar veered from its intended use. Originating in the CARES Act, the PPP aimed to support American citizens impacted by the economic downturn of COVID-19. However, Colar saw this support system as an opportunity to exploit it for his gain, as United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey pointed out in the press release.

In his pursuit of fraudulent gains, Colar impersonated multiple CEOs and misused the identities of residents in his housing facility without their consent, submitting 16 fraudulent PPP loan applications seeking a total of $34,655,437.

Further investigations unearthed Colar's attempts at obstructing justice, including destroying evidence and tampering with witnesses. Subsequently, he was convicted of all 44 federal criminal offenses for his fraudulent behavior.
