Renewable America (RNA) boasts the recent completion of its Ferro Ranch Project in Petaluma, Marin County, California. This project accentuates the growth and importance of local solar success in concert with Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs). The solar site, according to an official statement of Renewable America, is projected to generate about 2,300 MWh annually, sufficient to power approximately 300 homes and save around 19,000 tons of CO2 throughout the project's lifespan.
California's goal of having 90% of its energy sourced from renewable and zero-carbon methods by 2035, is something which RNA is devoted to. Through its array of solar and storage projects, RNA is aiding in the enhancement of the state's grid resiliency. The Ferro Ranch Project, in Marin County, will increase community energy sovereignty and decrease susceptibility to energy supply issues. The project employs fixed tilt and bifacial modules with a 1.45 MWdc capacity. Equally, RNA has committed to employing locals, thereby stimulating job growth and economic prosperity for Marin County.
A California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption was granted to RNA allowing the construction of this photovoltaic facility to move ahead. RNA is among the first developers to be approved for agricultural-compatible land use under Marin County's Williamson Act contract. Through its environmentally friendly approach, only 3.6% of the total land will be utilized for the facility, formally leaving the rest in its natural condition. RNA's Ag Management plan permits managed sheep grazing around the solar site, and Marin County will ensure that the land's sustainable usage is preserved via continual assessments.
Ardi Arian, RNA's President & CEO, conveyed his excitement about the completion of the Ferro Ranch Project, stating, "We're excited about reaching this milestone with one of our forty projects and eagerly anticipate further contributions to California’s clean energy target." He indicated that the Ferro Ranch Project could potentially set the stage for future partnerships with other CCAs and support local clean energy initiatives. The partnership with Sunwest Bank is facilitated by a sale leaseback structure that allows RNA to remain involved in the project throughout its lifecycle. MCE's service area portfolio will now include the solar site, highlighting the strengthening collaboration between clean energy suppliers and CCAs in California.
