Today, Anjel Jimenez, 53, was sentenced to 32 months in state prison for the theft of nearly $50,000 worth of construction equipment and copper wire. Jimenez had pleaded no contest to charges of grand theft and commercial burglary. He and his accomplice had cut a fence to break into a construction yard in June to steal the materials, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney.

Technology played a crucial role in solving this crime when an "air-tagged" power tool led investigators to the stolen property. The theft was reported on June 12, and Jimenez's accomplice, Jose Cauich, was arrested almost one hour afterwards. Jimenez was arrested the next day as per RWC Pulse.
The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office charged Jimenez and Cauich with commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Sadly though, only about $8,000 worth of the stolen property was recovered.
