VIDEO: Santa Rosa Firefighters Save Elderly Man from Beaver Street BlazeSource: City of Santa Rosa Fire Department

Yesterday, a seemingly ordinary residence on Beaver Street transformed into a scene of urgency as a fire broke out. The Santa Rosa Fire Department attended the scene swiftly to manage the incident and ensure the safety of the community.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department Facebook post indicated that first responders were at the scene under five minutes after the initial report at 12:21 p.m. Upon arrival, a small, detached house was seen producing light smoke with possible reports of a resident trapped inside.

The firefighters were quick to act, making their way quickly into the dwelling by breaking through the locked front door. Inside, they found an elderly man downed by smoke and fire, promptly carrying him out to safety. Their timely intervention ensured his evacuation to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The origin of the fire was found to be a floor heater, though the incident was determined to be accidental and not suspicious according to the department's Facebook update. Quick thinking and response from the firefighters meant there, no significant injuries were incurred during the incident.

Following containment of the fire, a ventilation hole was cut into the house's roof by the ladder truck crew, to purge the residence of smoke. The fire was extinguished rapidly, preventing any further damage.

Post-incident, the Fire Prevention Bureau initiated an investigation to examine the burnt remains to ascertain the fire's true nature. The utility company PG&E was also called to secure gas and electrical services, mitigating further potential risks to the scene.

The blaze did incur roughly $10,000 worth of damages, primarily focused on the floor area and structural components of the second floor. The responding team composed of three engines, one ladder truck, two chief officers, three fire investigators, and one ambulance, showcased their dedication to the safety of the community through their swift response and proficient handling of the situation.
