San Jose GVTF Busts Two, Seizes Arsenal and Drugs in SoCal ShakedownSource: County of Santa Clara Office of the District Attorney

In a big win for the good guys, two men have been slapped with cuffs and hauled off to face a judge, after a brazen weapons and drug hoard was uncovered by Santa Clara County's new heat-seeking Gun Violence Task Force (GVTF).

The DA's crew went full superhero on a not-so-dynamic duo, John Phan, 33, and Calvin Le, 25, dragging them into court this afternoon. According to a statement released by the DA's office, these perps face enough gun and drug charges to slam them behind bars for nearly two decades if Lady Justice has her way, with an 18-year-old maxi waitin' for 'em. The stash was found in the unsuspecting clutches of a south San Jose mobile home park.

The bust was a first of its kind for the newly minted GVTF—a squad pieced together with the best of the badge from various departments, all amped up to strip firearms away from the stigmatized, the young, and the felonious. Phan, one of our alleged armory aficionados, was caught wearing the scarlet letter of an armed, prohibited felon.

When the GVTF gang swooped in on Ford Road on Thursday, they hit the motherlode. They confiscated a smorgasbord of firearms including, not one, but two AK-style assault rifles suspected as machine guns, a pair of AR-style semi-automatic assault rifles, and a ghost gun that goes bump in the night. Toss in some ballistic fashion statements, a hefty hoard of "could put a hole in a tank" ammo, and a cocktail of narcotics with enough fentanyl and Molly to throw a very, very bad party, and you've got a recipe for disaster stopped cold by San Jose's finest.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen was beaming like a proud parent at a spelling bee, boasting that this takedown is only the beginning. “This is a county that is still healing from mass shootings, and reeling from two baby girls who were poisoned with opioids,” Rosen crowed. “Our task force is actively and energetically looking for the people selling weaponry to killers, and drugs that are lethal. Our task force is finding them and – if I have anything to say about it – they are going to jail.” as detailed in the County of Santa Clara Office of the District Attorney official website.
