Kevin Lemaza-Castillo of Oakland attempted to use BART after stealing $1,300 of goods from a local Target. The would-be thief's plan derailed at Civic Center Station on November 30th when officers spotted him attempting to jump the turnstile without paying, which led to a foot chase and the discovery of the stolen loot.

After witnessing the suspect's evasion of the BART fare, the police moved swiftly to intercept Lemaza-Castillo who chucked two hefty bags filled with tagged merchandise which included apparel, footwear, and a miscellany of other products directly at the officers in hot pursuit then bolted from the station, according to a statement from BART Police. Despite his efforts to dash, officers quickly caught up to him.

The merchandise, still adorned with Target's unmistakable red tags, totaled exactly $1,371.26 when scanned - putting a price tag on Lemaza-Castillo's foiled scheme. More than just pilfered goods, the would-be entrepreneur was also carrying the weight of an outstanding warrant for another unrelated theft in Alameda.

Details of the incident, detailed in a Facebook post by BART Police, not only recounted the failed theft attempt but hailed the officers' vigilance which returned the stolen goods back to Target.
