A 16-year-old boy is facing serious charges after being apprehended by the Chicago Police's Vehicular Hijacking Task Force. According to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department, the juvenile was arrested on March 27 and is now charged with one felony count each of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, armed robbery with a firearm, unlawful restraint, possessing/selling a stolen vehicle, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card.

The incident leading to the arrest unfolded in the early hours of the same day, when the underage suspect allegedly took control of a vehicle at gunpoint, adding personal property theft from a 40-year-old man in the process. Officers managed to spot the stolen vehicle in traffic later, recovering a weapon upon the offender's apprehension. Found in the 10300 block of S. Vincennes, the officers placed him under arrest less than two hours after the crime was reported on the 11600 block of S. Michigan.

This concerning episode adds yet another case to the city's ongoing struggle with vehicular hijacking crimes. The detainee, whose identity is withheld due to his minor status, is to face a detention hearing at 1100 S. Hamilton, the date of which coincides with the public notice of his charges—March 28, 2024.
