An 84-year-old man tragically lost his life and two others were left injured after a vehicular disaster in Boynton Beach, authorities said yesterday. Andrew Kahn of Lake Worth was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center following the crash which occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and Lee Road, as reported by WPTV.

Investigators suspect that Kahn, who was driving a 2023 Honda Civic, may have been suffering from a medical emergency prior to the collision. He was reportedly veering between lanes at a high rate of speed on southbound 441 before rear-ending a 2000 Ford E250 van, driven by a 43-year-old Miami Beach man, according to BocaNewsNow.com. The impact was so severe that it caused the Ford van to cross over the median, coming to a halt on the east shoulder of the northbound lanes.

The Honda Civic, on the other hand, continued to barrel southbound after the crash, crossing the median and northbound lanes, before slamming into a guardrail and coming to rest on the east shoulder. "The Ford separated from the Honda and was redirected to the left," according to a statement obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, describing the chaotic sequence of events that unfolded that fateful morning around 10:30 AM. Both Kahn and the driver of the Ford, identified as Selvin Raudales, were taken to Delray Medical Center. Raudales and his van passenger sustained minor injuries.

This incident has once again brought to the forefront concerns around vehicle collisions involving elderly drivers and the potential for medical emergencies to cause such tragic occurrences. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigations into the exact nature of Kahn’s medical condition and the circumstances leading up to the collision.
