Atlanta was gripped by mourning as a candlelight vigil was held last night for Tobias Perkins, Jr., the 6-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short. Loved ones gathered to remember the innocent child who was later pronounced dead at a hospital after being found unresponsive and reportedly beaten.

The Fulton County community is now trying to fully come to terms with the heinous crime. Dashon Jones, 24, the boyfriend of Tobias' mother, stands accused in the wake of the child's death. Jones, who is now facing murder charges, was reportedly at the helm of the child's care when the unfathomable act took place. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Tobias' father wants justice to be swiftly brought for his fallen son.

As captured in the flicker of candlelight, the boy's memory was celebrated in what should have been a playground of life at D.H. Stanton Park. Instead, the mournful glow enveloped his photograph while loved ones released balloons, hoping to symbolically lift Tobias' spirit to the heavens. "We going to let these balloons go and let him fly high because we know that he is with God," a family member told Channel 2 Action News.

Wrapped within their grief and disbelief over the senseless act, Tobias' loved ones are also demanding answers. The details of the crime itself are disturbing, with police reporting that Tobias succumbed to blunt force trauma. "Apparently, he was the boyfriend of the mother we don’t really know much about him," cousin Cedric Perkins Junior told Channel 2 Action News. "We have so many questions about what happened and how it happened; it’s a tragedy." The suspect, meanwhile, finds himself behind bars, awaiting trial in the Fulton County jail.
