A Fairfield man was put in cuffs late Sunday evening after police swiftly tracked him down using city surveillance systems following a report of sexual assault earlier in the day.

Details provided by the Fairfield, CA Police Department note that a local woman, whose identity remains private for protection, came forward to a nearby hospital at approximately 11:30 am on March 26 to report the assault. She reported the incident taking place on West Texas Street, in the vicinity of Allan Witt Park. Responding to her claims, patrol officers canvassed the scene, while detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit dove into an immediate investigation, as per the department's Facebook post.

The city's comprehensive camera infrastructure played a pivotal role, as dispatchers located the crime scene and followed the male suspect’s moves throughout Fairfield, according to the police. Advancements in surveillance technology, included the Flock LPR database, aided detectives in pinpointing a vehicle associated with the suspect.

Armed with video and photographs of the suspect obtained during their high-tech hunt, Fairfield PD communicated a bulletin to its night shift officers who remained vigilant for the subject's car. At about 10:00 pm, they hit pay dirt — spotting the described vehicle and taking the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alexis Feliciano-Velazquez of Fairfield, not only faces sexual assault charges but also had an outstanding warrant for burglary.
