In a tragic turn of events late Wednesday night, a wrong-way crash on SR 85 near Buckeye claimed the life of one driver and left five individuals, including three teens, injured. According to ABC15, the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. when a sedan collided with another vehicle carrying the five victims.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation into the incident that saw a sedan, driving in the opposite direction, strike a car with five passengers. The lone driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the crash scene, with the occupants of the second vehicle sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. After the investigation started, SR 85 was subsequently closed in both directions, as reported by Arizona's Family.

Authorities have yet to determine whether speed or impairment played a role in the deadly collision. Arizona's Family notes that the second vehicle involved, which held three teens among the passengers, was hit with such force that all necessitated transport to a hospital for their injuries.

The aftermath of the crash had SR 85 closed for several hours as emergency crews worked through the night. The wrong-way driver, whose identity has not been released to the public, and whose actions left a car full of five with only minor injuries, was alone when the crash took place.
